Alberto Lesarri gave a plenary talk at the Spectroscopy and Dynamics of Molecules and Clusters (SDMC-2020) Conference, which took place the last February 20-23 in Kumbhalgarh (Rajasthan, India). The Conference was jointly organized by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT, Jodhpur)Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS, Pilani)Malaviya National Institute of Technology (Jaipur)Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (Pune), and National Chemical Laboratory (Pune). The Conference was very dynamical, providing a great opportunity for scientific exchange. This was the first and probably the last Conference this year following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Summer conferences

Our group participated in several conferences this Summer. Marcos Juanes attended the 74 International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy (ISMS) at the University of Illinois last June 17-21, presenting three oral talks. Alberto Lesarri gave oral talks at the 18 European Symposium on Gas-Phase Electron Diffraction (ESGED18) in Hirschegg (Austria), the Iberian Joint Meeting on Atomic and Molecular Physics (IBER2019) in Évora (Portugal) and the XXXVII Biannual Meeting of the Spanish Physics Society (Bienal Física 2019) in Zaragoza (Spain).

The IBER2019 conference is the biannual meeting of the Portuguese (SPF) and Spanish (RSEF) Physics Society. The event is coorganized by the SPF and the Division of Atomic and Molecular Physics (GEFAM) of the RSEF. This year the event remembered the GEFAM founder Prof. Gerardo Delgado-Barrio (CSIC), who passed away in 2018.

Project meeting

The team of our national project, including researchers from the Universities of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), La Rioja (UR) and Valladolid (UVa) met in Logrono last January 18 to follow the research results. A new project for the period 2019-21 has been proposed.

CPC cover

An investigation on diphenyl disulfide has been highlighted in the cover of CPC. This collaboration with Jean Demaison and Natalja Vogt uses a combination of supersonic jet experimental data and high-level ab initio calculations for the precise determination of the equilibrium molecular structure. The cover features the biologically and industrially important disulfide bridge.

September visits

Category : Group News

Following the 25th Conference on High Resolution Molecular Spectroscopy we received some visits at the lab. Prof. Pascal Dréan (PhLAM, Univ. Lille) and his Ph.D. student Mhamad Chrayteh visited the lab last September 10th. Later that week we welcomed Prof. Yasuki Endo (NCTU, Taiwan) and Dr. Cabezas (NCTU, now at the CSIC, Madrid).

Our group organized the last 25th International Conference on High Resolution Molecular Spectroscopy in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country. The Conference gathered about 270 participants and six companies, combining 126 oral talks and posters. Marcos Juanes and Rizalina Tama Saragi presented two oral talks and two posters. The conference included a talk by the Nobel laureate Dudley Herschbach, who received the “Miguel Catalán” medal of the Group of Atomic and Molecular Physics (GEFAM) of the Spanish Chemistry (RSEQ) and Physics (RSEF) societies. The next Conference will be organized in Prague in 2020.

Marcos Juanes attended the last International Symposium in Molecular Spectroscopy, which was organized by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Marcos presented two oral communications during the conference on the dimers of cyclohexanol and thenyl and furfuryl alcohol.

Bunsentagung 2018

Category : Conferences Group News

Marcos Juanes and Alberto Lesarri attended last May 10-12 the 117th Bunsentagung 2018 in Hannover, the annual conference of the Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft or Bunsen society of Physical Chemistry. The Conference has been running since 1894. Alberto gave a hot topic talk and Marcos presented two posters. Several contributions to the Conference appeared in a special themed issue of PCCP “Kinetics in the real world“. The opening conference talk by Prof. James G. Anderson, with dramatic data on climate change and human health is freely available from PCCP.

Marcos Juanes and Rizalina Tama Saragi attended the Conference of Young Researchers in Atomic and Molecular Physics (X-J2IFAM-2018), which was organized at the University of Barcelona last April 3-6th, 2018. This edition marks the 10th anniversary of this meeting, which is organized by the own Ph.D. students. The Conference is sponsored by the Group of Atomic and Molecular Physics (GEFAM) of the Spanish Physics (RSEF) and Chemistry (RSEQ) societies.

Caminati visit

Category : Group News

Professor Walther Caminati (Università di Bologna) visited our group for two weeks in January 2018. Prof. Caminati is a leading figure in the investigation of hydrogen bonding using microwave spectroscopy. A recent report in Angewandte Chemie examined why some dimers of carboxylic acids and alcohols were unobservable in the gas phase. Read “The borderline between reactivity and prereactivity or binary mixtures of gaseous carboxylic acids and alcohols“.
