Our group organized the last 25th International Conference on High Resolution Molecular Spectroscopy in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country. The Conference gathered about 270 participants and six companies, combining 126 oral talks and posters. Marcos Juanes and Rizalina Tama Saragi presented two oral talks and two posters. The conference included a talk by the Nobel laureate Dudley Herschbach, who received the “Miguel Catalán” medal of the Group of Atomic and Molecular Physics (GEFAM) of the Spanish Chemistry (RSEQ) and Physics (RSEF) societies. The next Conference will be organized in Prague in 2020.

Bunsentagung 2018

Category : Conferences Group News

Marcos Juanes and Alberto Lesarri attended last May 10-12 the 117th Bunsentagung 2018 in Hannover, the annual conference of the Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft or Bunsen society of Physical Chemistry. The Conference has been running since 1894. Alberto gave a hot topic talk and Marcos presented two posters. Several contributions to the Conference appeared in a special themed issue of PCCP “Kinetics in the real world“. The opening conference talk by Prof. James G. Anderson, with dramatic data on climate change and human health is freely available from PCCP.

X-J2IFAM

Category : Conferences Group News

Marcos Juanes and Rizalina Tama Saragi attended the Conference of Young Researchers in Atomic and Molecular Physics (X-J2IFAM-2018), which was organized at the University of Barcelona last April 3-6th, 2018. This edition marks the 10th anniversary of this meeting, which is organized by the own Ph.D. students. The Conference is sponsored by the Group of Atomic and Molecular Physics (GEFAM) of the Spanish Physics (RSEF) and Chemistry (RSEQ) societies.

Caminati visit

Category : Group News

Professor Walther Caminati (Università di Bologna) visited our group for two weeks in January 2018. Prof. Caminati is a leading figure in the investigation of hydrogen bonding using microwave spectroscopy. A recent report in Angewandte Chemie examined why some dimers of carboxylic acids and alcohols were unobservable in the gas phase. Read “The borderline between reactivity and prereactivity or binary mixtures of gaseous carboxylic acids and alcohols“.

HBOND-2017

The XXII Horizons in Hydrogen Bonding Research conference was organized by the University of Jyväskylä (Finland) last September 10-14, 2017. The meeteing attracted a wide range of researchers interested in theoretical and experimental aspects related to hydrogen bonding. Alberto Lesarri presented an oral talk and two posters at the conference. Two meetings in Finland this year …

Caminati Festschrift

Jens-Uwe Grabow, Alberto Lesarri and Sonia Melandri acted as Guest Editors of two special volumes of the Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy dedicated to honour Prof. Walther Caminati on his retirement, with the title “Spectroscopy and inter/intramolecular dynamics in honor of Walther Caminati”. Prof. Caminati is one of the most important contributors to the development of rotational spectroscopy worldwide, publishing more than 400 articles in his career, with particular attention to molecules and molecular complexes presenting large amplitude internal dynamics.

Kisiel visit

Category : Group News

Prof. Dr. Zbigniew Kisiel, a leading figure in rotational spectroscopy and researcher of the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, visited the UVa in May, 8-19, 2017. Prof. Kisiel was invited by the UVa Doctoral School to give the course “Analysis of broadband rotational spectra” which was attended by several Ph.D. students, Postdocs and interested staff of the Department. Prof. Kisiel mantains the useful web site “Programs for Rotational Spectroscopy“.

A picture of Prof. Kisiel in our lab is shown below.

Femtochemistry talk

Category : Group News Talks

Prof. Luis Banares (Univ. Complutense Madrid) visited our University on November 18 and gave a lecture to the Chemistry students on “Femtoscopy” or how femtosecond lasers can be used to observe and manipulate chemical reactions.

China visit

Category : Group News

A new microwave Spectroscopy group has been created at the University of Chongqing by two chinese researchers at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engeering, Qian Gou and Gang Feng. Alberto Lesarri and Jens-Uwe Grabow were invited to visit the lab  in the wonderful Huxi campus in Chongqing last August for the first operations of the new spectrometer. The University of Chongqing was founded in 1929 and comprises 4 campus. Alberto gave a talk reviewing the applications of rotational Spectroscopy to structural Chemistry (August 5th) and a seminar on spectroscopic software tools (August 8th). Excellent hospitality in Chongqing and great future for Spectroscopy in China.
